Around 19 million seniors and people with disabilities are enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans. These plans can be a big portion of your earning potential. However, in order to sell Medicare Advantage plans during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), you’ll have to get your America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) certification.
What Is AHIP Certification?
There are rules to selling Medicare Advantage (MA) and Prescription Drug Plans (PDPs). A lot of them. These rules have been put in place to protect consumers from unethical insurance marketing practices. AHIP certification is proof that you’ve completed a series of AHIP Medicare training courses and that you now know how to sell plans in a way that is compliant with up-to-date Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations. Because these regulations can change yearly, you’ll be required to get recertified if you want to continue your work as a Medicare broker.
Getting your AHIP certification will not only allow you to legally sell to a market you might not otherwise have access to, but it’ll also help you learn the required CMS regulations you’ll need to know in order to grow your business while protecting your senior customers.
How Can I Get my AHIP Certification?
You’ll have to pass a test. The test is open book, but you only get two hours to complete it. To pass, you’ll have to get at least 90 percent of the questions right. You do get to take the test three times.
There are many different ways to sign up to get your AHIP certification, but if you get certified with our assistance, we can help streamline the process.
